Defenceman Alexander Edler is entering the final year of his contract, and the Vancouver Canucks have to decide if they’re going to extend him, or if the 32-year-old should be shopped at the trade deadline.
Complicating matters, should the Canucks look to deal him, is that Edler has a no-movement clause. Edler has made it clear he wants to stay in Vancouver. But given his injury history and age, you do wonder if the front office shares the desire to keep him here beyond 2019.
Not only is Edler seemingly unwilling to waive his no-movement clause, but according to Jason Brough of The Athletic (h/t Spector’s Hockey), Edler is also open to signing a contract extension.
