One of the biggest offseason storylines for the Vancouver Canucks was definitely the possible return of veteran defenseman Dan Hamhuis. There was a lot of “I love Vancouver” and “we love Dan Hamhuis” between both parties, but GM Jim Benning wanted to see how the roster shapes up without Hamhuis first. While we never got details about their contract negotiations, we all kind of assumed the Canucks wanted to keep him, but only on a short-term deal at a “hometown discount”, while Hamhuis was seeking a long-term deal.
As we learned today, however, Hamhuis was never offered a new contract with Vancouver — not even at a hometown discount.
