It doesn’t matter how you feel about Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning.
Ownership decided that he’s capable of building this team into a Stanley Cup champion, and despite plenty of calls from fans for a change in the front office, the Aquilinis instead handed Benning a three-year extension.
Bennning is one of the most polarizing figures in Vancouver sports history. It’s easy to point out his poor trade history and free agency mistakes. It’s also hard to ignore the wonderful drafting he’s done up to this point — bringing in franchise cornerstones like Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes.
