The Vancouver Canucks held their Summer Showdown on Thursday night inside Rogers Arena, and three members of our staff — Scott Rosenhek, Drew Nazareth and myself — were in attendance to see how it played out.
All eyes were unsurprisingly on defenceman Quinn Hughes — whom the Canucks selected with the seventh pick in this year’s draft. Hughes received cheers any time he touched the puck, and fans got to witness his dazzling speed and slick end-to-end rushes.
Hughes did have a couple of bad giveaways, but that’s expected for a player who’s just starting out with his new team.
