On Friday, the Vancouver Canucks gave general manager Jim Benning a contract extension, as first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
The Canucks will formally announce the extension this week, and it’s “believed to be” for three more years, per Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre. It’s plenty of job security for Benning, who enters his sixth season on the job.
A quick look through Canucks Twitter, and you’ll see plenty of mixed reactions about the extension. On one side, many can’t understand how ownership can retain so much faith in a GM whose team has missed the playoffs in four straight seasons — and five of the last six overall.
