When your club is rebuilding but hardly owns draft picks, you can’t afford to miss with the one’s you have — that is the situation the Vancouver Canucks are facing this weekend. Okay, “hardly own draft picks” is an exaggeration in regards to Vancouver, as they still own six instead of the original seven. The problem, however, is that other rebuilding teams have 10 or more picks, predominantly in the first three rounds, while the Canucks do not.
To stay or rather become competitive right now, the team doesn’t need draft picks. Except for the top three, there are likely no players who can step into the NHL right away.
