FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — After a promising morning, the Kevin Bieksa trade talks made a U-turn in the afternoon and it doesn't appear the defenceman will be moving to the San Jose Sharks from the Vancouver Canucks.
TSN insider Darren Dreger told TSN 1040 Radio in Vancouver that Canucks general manager Jim Benning wanted a pair of second-round picks from the Sharks, a price San Jose general manager Doug Wilson was unwilling to pay. The impasse arrived after the Sharks, given permission to discuss a contract extension with Bieksa, reportedly framed a deal that would have paid the 34-year-old about $18 million US over four years, starting in the 2016-17 season.
