Home stand will set trade stance for Canucks

On Feb. 1 there are only 28 more sleeps until the National Hockey League trade deadline.

Four weeks from Monday, the trade window slams shut for NHL general managers.

How active Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning will be depends on how his team performs this month.

The Canucks play eight of their 11 games this month at home. If they are to remain in the Western Conference playoff race, they must take advantage of the schedule. That is certainly not a given, considering the Canucks are a mediocre 9-9-4 at Rogers Arena this season.

If the Canucks stay in touch with the playoff pack, Benning will perhaps be more apt to stand pat or even become a buyer.
