Flames coach fined $50,000 for Game 2 fight against Canucks

CALGARY — Bob Hartley has been fined $50,000 by the National Hockey League, which blames the Calgary Flames coach for the brawl that broke out late in Friday night’s playoff game against the Vancouver Canucks.

In a news release issued Saturday afternoon, the league said the fine was “issued in accordance with By-Law 17.3 (a) for conduct prejudicial to or against the welfare of the League.”

In other words, the league felt Hartley precipitated the incident by the selection of players he had on the ice late in what was a 4-1 game.

But the Flames did get some good news from the NHL head office.
