NEWARK, N.J. — The Vancouver Canucks’ depth on defence is being severely tested in a season that is only 15 games old.
Already without the injured Luca Sbisa, the Canucks had to play without top-pairing defenceman Chris Tanev in Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.
Coach Willie Desjardins said Tanev is nursing an “upper-body” injury.
“It is day to day right now,” Desjardins said.
The Canucks recalled defenceman Alex Biega from the Utica Comets to fill in for Tanev.
Biega played in Tanev’s spot alongside Alex Edler and acquitted himself quite nicely.
