Canucks Notebook: Rookie defenceman Sautner earns rapid promotion

Just 19 games into his professional hockey career, Ashton Sautner found himself Monday someplace he never imagined he’d be.

The 21-year-old undrafted defenceman, signed last spring by Canucks as a project of sorts, was sitting at his very own stall in the Vancouver dressing room.

Sautner did not get to play Monday night, when the Canucks played host to the Los Angeles Kings.

But he took part in the optional game-day skate and skated in the pre-game warmup.

“Dream come true to be up here, be a part of it and get the experience.” said Sautner, a former captain of the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings.
