SAN ANTONIO — Junior Dalton Sturm could face a serious challenge to hold onto the starting quarterback position at UTSA.
First-year coach Frank Wilson said Wednesday that he will put Sturm on scholarship.
But Wilson left little doubt at his signing-day press conference Wednesday that the walk-on from Goliad could be in a battle with a transfer or two before the start of next season.
Wilson pointed out previous success stories of upperclassmen transferring and developing into championship-caliber quarterbacks.
“You don’t want to build your team necessarily every year in the spring … but there are key components of a guy that’s 21-, 22-, 23-years old who’s been experienced, who’s been battle-tested … (who) if he plugs in, it helps that team, but also helps that individual,” he said.
