UTSA signs state champion sprinter Jose Garcia

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox on Wednesday announced that the program has signed state champion sprinter Jose Garcia of Harlingen High School. He will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2021-22 season.

Garcia made national headlines in May when he raced to a time of 10.00 seconds to win the Texas Class 6A 100 meters at Myers Stadium in Austin. His time was aided by a 5.4-meters-per-second tailwind and not eligible for records, but it stands as the third-fastest time ever recorded under any conditions by a prep athlete in the country and the fastest ever clocked at the UIL state meet, eclipsing Matthew Boling's 10.
