Southern Miss hits 14 threes in 86-70 victory over UTSA

SAN ANTONIO — The Southern Miss Golden Eagles nailed 14 shots from behind the 3-point arc Saturday and rolled to an 86-70 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners in Conference USA men’s basketball.

Southern Miss (7-12, 4-4) entered the game in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, rated No. 277 out of 351 teams in the NCAA Division I RPI, but made it look easy against UTSA.

Coming at No. 338 in the RPI, the Roadrunners (4-18, 2-7) gave up nine treys in the first half but managed to stay in the game, trailing by only six at the break.

The Golden Eagles pushed the lead into double digits early in the second half and hiked it to 64-47 on a 3-pointer by Raheem Watts with 8:58 remaining.
