DALLAS —Bashiru Abdullahi has been named Conference USA Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Ingeborg Gruenwald was tabbed C-USA Women's Field Athlete of the Week for their performances in the season-opening H-Town SpeedCity Series, the league office announced Wednesday.
Abdullahi, a native of Benin City, Nigeria, opened the indoor season by cruising to victory in the men's 60-meter hurdles at the H-Town SpeedCity Series on Jan. 16 in Houston. The junior school record-holder and defending C-USA Indoor champion clocked a time of 7.91 seconds to advance out of the preliminary round as the top qualifier before posting a 7.
