UTEP opens a 2020 season where just more than half of the FBS teams are playing with a home game against FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin.
The 7 p.m. game was officially added to the schedule two weeks ago as a fill-in for Texas Tech after the Big 12 decided travel during the time of COVID was so dangerous that non-conference opponents would have to come to them.
The FCS has officially moved its season to spring, but SFA is one of several Southland Conference schools ad-libbing a fall schedule. At the moment they have five games on the schedule.
