A productive season for the UTEP track team ended with a sweep of the Conference USA athlete of the year awards, as All-American steeplechaser Victor Kibiego and second-team All-American hurdler Marissa Simpson took home the awards, league officials announced Wednesday.

Kibiego is UTEP's second consecutive male winner, as Jevaughn Powell won last year, while Simpson is UTEP's first female winner since her predecessor, current 100-meter hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan, won the award in 2017 and '16.

Kibiego finished his freshman season with a third-place finish at the NCAA championships in Austin earlier this month, while the sophomore Simpson was 16th in the 100 hurdles.
