UTEP women's basketball team picks up two transfers

A turbulent offseason got better for the UTEP women's basketball team, which added two high-profile transfers to offset a flow of players into the transfer portal.

Teal Battle, an all-conference forward for Arkansas-Little Rock, and 6-foot-1 guard Makayla Pippin from Kansas State signed with UTEP, bringing next year's incoming class to five players. UTEP is replacing three seniors to graduation and transfers, and three other players from last year's roster entered the transfer portal.

"This is a pair of good gets," coach Kevin Baker said of Battle, a graduate student who will have one year of eligibility as she worked on her master's degree in education, and Pippin.
