UTEP's Zec shoots for 1,000-point club El Paso Times
Katarina Zec has an appreciation for the dramatic, so perhaps that is why the UTEP women's basketball team's star senior couldn't get one more shot to fall last Saturday in a loss at UAB.
She knew she was sitting on 999 career points, she was doing everything she could to lead her team back in the fourth quarter, but that most significant of college basketball milestones was just beyond her reach.
That means, of course, barring something catastrophic, UTEP's only fourth-year senior, their captain and leader, a 5-foot-11 guard from Belgrade, Serbia, who fell in love with El Paso, will break into the 1,000-point club Thursday at home against Charlotte.
