The UTEP women's basketball team made the layup Thursday night, in several senses.
Playing the least-regarded team in Conference USA, Florida International, the Miners flew out of the gate and buried the Panthers, using their defense to create a series of gimmes and quickly pulled away for a 64-34 victory.
UTEP improved to 8-4, and they are now within one game of last year's win total, while FIU fell to 3-9.
