UTEP starts fast, blows out Louisiana-Monroe behind sterling first half

The UTEP football team cleared a hurdle Saturday at Louisiana-Monroe.

The Miners believe they are good and now they have some evidence to back that up.

UTEP, a 10-point underdog, bolted out to a 24-0 halftime lead while overmatching the Warhawks and saw it home to a 31-6 victory. The win moved the Miners to 3-1 for the first time since 2010 and marked their first win against FBS competition since 2018 and the second since 2016.

The Miners have one more win this season than the previous three seasons combined.

Deion Hankins ran over the Warhawks in the first half for three touchdowns, Gavin Hardison put the ball in tight spots on third down (UTEP was 10-of-14 on third down late in the third quarter), and Jacob Cowing and Justin Garrett had big games.
