UTEP officials offered support for Conference USA's decision to trim the league tournament to eight teams from 12 and athletic director Jim Senter indicated the move could be temporary.
The trimming of the tournament was widely reported Tuesday and made official on Wednesday.
"We support all of the recommendations brought forth by the Conference USA Board of Directors, including the decision to reduce the field of the basketball championship from 12 teams to eight," Senter said in a press release.
