UTEP takes aim at Southern Miss Bret Bloomquist, Wochit
The UTEP football team is clearly getting better, but they open Conference USA play Saturday at Southern Miss in a gratingly familiar spot.
They are still looking for the big upset, breakthrough victory, the most tangible proof of improvement, that could truly launch the Dana Dimel era at UTEP.
The Miners have lost nine consecutive C-USA openers dating back to one of the program's all-time great upsets, the 2009 rout of No. 12 Houston, and they will need a similar effort Saturday as a 27-point underdog in Hattiesburg.
