UTEP volleyball begins a new era Bret Bloomquist, Wochit

The bar for improvement usually isn't high with the UTEP volleyball team, but as it begins the Ben Wallis era Saturday with an exhibition at New Mexico, the goals actually are bigger than just improving on 2018's 5-21 mark.

The Miners begin this year with an optimism that has been too rare around Memorial Gym.

"We think we can can win two or three times as many games as last year," said Wallis, a former Franklin High assistant who spent the last six years as the top assistant for regional power New Mexico State.
