UTEP Miners make big gains with graduate transfers

UTEP reaps benefits of graduate transfers Bret Bloomquist, Wochit

The NCAA graduate transfer rule, which allows students who have earned a degree to transfer to a new school without sitting out a season, was always going to help programs like UTEP.

In the last few years it has been a particular boon for the Miners, and Monday brought the announcement that defensive back Ykili Smith, coming in from USC, was the third graduate player this year and the second since camp began to transfer to UTEP.

He joins starting tight end Jess Trussell from Purdue and impact receiver Devaughn Cooper from Arizona, and those three are just the latest.
