UTEP Miners basketball stats crew duo retires after 55 years combined service

Miners host LA Tech Thursday night

They were there.

Ron Ballinger and Alfedo Chavez have quietly been a part of UTEP athletic history. Through good times and bad, through wins and losses, they were witness — Ballinger for 30 years, Chavez for 25.

They sit unobtrusively in the corner next to the tunnel in the Don Haskins Center and they sit almost unnoticed at the end of the press box in the Sun Bowl. And they have seldom missed a game.

They are members of the UTEP statistical crew, the group that charts every known statistic and presents it to coaches and media almost instantly.
