UTEP men's basketball signs 6-foot-9 freshman Kevin Kalu from Baltimore

The UTEP men's basketball team picked up some size with one of its two remaining scholarships.

Kevin Kalu, a 6-foot-9 center from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Baltimore, signed a national letter of intent and is immediately eligible as a freshman, UTEP coach Joe Golding announced Thursday.

Kalu was the Baltimore Catholic League's defensive player of the year after averaging 16 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots a game. After a COVID-shortened senior season he played in the summer for AAU’s Team Melo 17U, an Elite Youth Basketball League team sponsored by Carmelo Anthony.
