UTEP legend Bob Beamon to be inducted in Texas Sports Hall of Fame

Bob Beamon is finally headed to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

The UTEP track long jump legend, whose stunning jump of 29-feet-2 1/2 inches (8.90 meters) earned him the gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and established a world record that lasted 23 years and still stands as the second-longest jump ever, is one of nine members in the class of 2022.

He won his Olympic gold shortly after winning the 1968 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in the long jump for UTEP.

Already a member of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame, the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame and the United States Olympic Hall of Fame, Beamon will be inducted with Chris Bosh, Manu Ginóbili, Robert Griffin III, Tony Parker, Carly Patterson Caldwell, Mike Renfro, Suzie Snider Eppers, and Michael Strahan

The 61st Annual Induction Banquet will be held in the BASE at the Extraco Event Center in Waco on March 12, 2022.
