UTEP tapped one of its all-time rifle greats to turn around that program, as five-time Miner All-American Andrea Palafox has been hired as the new head coach. She replaces Austin Litherland, who was fired after four years at the head of the program.
Palafox, a native of Guanajuato, Mexico, has competed for Mexican national teams, coached for the international Shooting Coach Online program and works with the Sports Commission of the State of Guanajuato.
She earned All-American honors in air rifle in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, and smallbore in 2012. She helped the Miners finish fifth as a team at the 2012 NCAA Championships, the best showing in school history.
