By the numbers, UTEP’s role Saturday against Southern Miss is as a spoiler.
A win can keep the Golden Eagles from going to a bowl, something that would make the Miners happy for an hour or so and be forgotten.
The difference between 1-11 and 2-10 is not profound, it won’t much change the outlook going into spring, it couldn’t mean much next August other than possibly being picked fourth or fifth in the Conference USA West preseason poll instead of fifth or sixth.
