UTEP football midseason report card: Inconsistency adds up to bevy of 'C's

The UTEP football team has been all over the map in an inconsistent season.

The Miners got an A+ in the three-phase win against Boise State, they rate a D in losses to Louisiana Tech, New Mexico and North Texas. At every position group, their grade has fluctuated wildly from possession to possession. Even the ugly losses had bright moments.

They've been quite good and they've been very bad, often in the same game. Finding some middle ground, some consistency will be the key to the second half of the season, where UTEP does have three more home games and needs three more wins to qualify for back-to-back bowls for the first time since 2004-05.
