UTEP basketball to hire assistant after one resigned in college scandal, other let go

UTEP is poised to add former Rodney Terry assistant Kenton Paulino to fill one of its two staff openings.

Initially reported by the Tulsa World, Paulino has been on the University of Tulsa's staff since 2017 after spending the previous five years with Terry at Fresno State.

He was a letter-winner at the University of Texas in the early 2000s, including the Final Four team of 2003 and the Elite Eight team of 2006. Texas earned that Elite Eight berth on Paulino's buzzer-beating 3-pointer against West Virginia in the round of 16.

After a two-year pro career in Turkey and Austin, Paulino then began his coaching career with a three-year stint at Texas as a special assistant.
