Kevin Baker's third season as the UTEP women's basketball coach always looked to be pivotal and the first, most obvious takeaway is that the Miners took a big step forward.
That was tangible. After last year's injury-ravaged 9-22 mark, the Miners won seven more games, three more conference games and went from a No. 11 seed in the league tournament to No. 7.
They closed with victory in the Conference USA tournament, their third straight tournament-opening win under Baker.
