One year ago, Jonah Koech was the undisputed young star of the UTEP track team.
He established some quick credentials by beating his national champion teammate Anthony Rotich at the NCAA cross country meet while finishing 11th, he certified himself as a sensation with a sixth place finish in the mile at indoor nationals, where he led with 100 meters to go.
Koech is still a big name at this weekend's Conference USA meet, it's just easy to forget that with his freshman teammate Emmanuel Korir, and to a lesser extent his other freshman teammate Michael Saruni, casting huge shadows over the national scene.
