Kayla Thornton waits out hiatus in El Paso, tries to keep in shape

Katia Gallegos breaks out for UTEP Wochit

Kayla Thornton is at an odd stage in her WNBA career, one where she has fully arrived but, for the moment, has nowhere to go.

The Dallas Wings' small forward, a UTEP Hall of Famer and Irvin High alum, is preparing to begin her fourth season with the franchise as an entrenched starter, coming off a breakthrough season where she averaged 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Thronton's coming off a truncated season in the Women's Korean Basketball League, where she followed up her 2019 WKBL MVP season by leading the Cheongju KB Stars in its title defense.
