For many sports-minded children in El Paso, Kacey Flores embodies the dream.
UTEP's star freshman softball player opened her career by earning the Conference USA freshman of the week award the first week it was in the offing, starting a campaign in which she has emerged as an instant star for the Miners.
Flores embodies the dream because, for so long, this was her dream. Just as girls in the stands for Saturday's C-USA opening series with Charlotte will look to the Eastlake graduate as a model of who they can become, she looked at former UTEP greats like Camilla Carrera, Chelsea Troupe and Stacie Townsend as who she wanted to become.
