Freshman Soleil Montrose a revelation for UTEP women's basketball

What UTEP swingplayer Soleil Montrose did Wednesday night against Texas Southern doesn't happen much in college basketball anymore.

In this transfer portal era where newcomer stars are juniors or seniors at their second or third school, Montrose is a true freshman who, in her third college game and second college start, poured in 23 points in the victory that pushed UTEP to 3-0.

Actually, that's never happened much in the Don Haskins Center, ever, in any era. This is hard to track down, but Montrose's 23 points is probably the most by a UTEP freshman women's basketball player in a November or December game in at least 20 years — more than Jareica Hughes, Kayla Thornton, Isabella Piekarska, Katia Gallegos or anyone else since Amy Pack in 1999.
