A season-long sore spot for UTEP is its inability to generate a return game with its special teams. Coach Dana Dimel said that has to change Saturday against Louisiana Tech.
Following kickoffs, they've only started two drives this year past the 25-yard line, one on the 28 and the other on the 35. Twice in the past two weeks they've started at their 12 or worse after kickoffs. The Miners are averaging 3.0 yards per punt return with a long this season of 8 yards.
