'Everything a coach could ask for': Yamil Oaxaca leads Montwood into district play

For all of the immense talent Yamil Oaxaca brings to the Montwood football team, there is one thing the 6-foot-1 receiver will never be able to do on an El Paso high school field — he can’t hide.

Opposing game plans are centered around the ubiquitous wideout, locating and trying to smother him is where stopping the Rams starts.

Oaxaca is averaging 168 receiving yards a game heading into Friday’s District 1-6A opener at Franklin, showing that having a plan to put the clamps on Oaxaca and pulling it off aren’t the same thing.

“It’s kind of a running joke with our offensive staff, if Yamil doesn’t get 15 touches we’re going with a new staff next week,” Montwood coach Ariel Famaligi said.
