El Paso golfer, Coronado alum Greg Yellin qualifies for US Amateur Championship

Former Coronado and current UTEP men's golfer Greg Yellin has earned a spot in next month's 118th U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament.

Yellin earned his trip to the tournament next month at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf Course by winning the two-day qualifying tournament at the University of New Mexico Golf Course in Albuquerque.

Yellin fired an eight-under, 136 and won the tournament by four strokes. Albuquerque's Patrick McCarthy also earned a spot to the U.S. Amateur Tournament with a second-place finish. He fired a two-day total of 140.

The U.S. Amateur will take place Aug.
