Bob Stull built success at UTEP athletics, leaves many challenges: Editorial

In announcing his retirement after nearly 20 years on the job, UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull leaves the Miner sports program in much better shape than when he arrived. His successor is likely to face even greater challenges.

Stull first came to UTEP in 1986 as head football coach, and built a record of success that the Miners hadn't seen in two decades. He moved on to be head football coach at the University of Missouri, and eventually returned to the Miners as athletic director in 1998.

His greatest success came in improving training facilities for an athletic program that had long lagged its competitors in that area.
