SALT LAKE CITY -
Utah senior punter Tom Hackett became just the second unanimous consensus All-American in school history today with his selection to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) first team. Also today, Britain Covey was named a first-team Sporting News Freshman All-American as a punt returner.
Hackett is just the second Ute to earn unanimous consensus honors, joining Louie Sakoda (2008, kicker). Both Hackett and Sakoda were named to the first-team of all five of the teams used by the NCAA to determine consensus All-Americans: Walter Camp, AP, FWAA, Sporting News and AFCA.
While this is Hackett’s first time as a unanimous consensus selection, he is the only two-time consensus All-American in school history, having also made the team in 2014.
