SALT LAKE CITY — Rivalry matchups are a different breed of games. The emotions are heightened, sound techniques and fundamentals are exchanged for nerves, and often the games devolve into a sloppy mess as one team hopes to come out on top victorious with a little pride.
On Saturday, the University of Utah staved off a late-game BYU rally to win its seventh straight meeting against the Cougars in almost a decade. But as Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said, the final score was anything but an indication of the actual game played.
“Statistically, the score was closer than the statistics,” he said following Utah’s 19-13 victory of the Cougars Saturday.
