Junior linebacker Uaea Masina has left the Utah football program.
The Brighton product played for the Utes for three seasons, but was hampered by injury. He finished his Utes career playing in 17 games with 23 total tackles. One of his best games came this year when he had four tackles against USC, playing the team where his brother Osa Masina is also a linebacker.
But stacking injuries convinced Masina to leave football, his mother Tamina Masina said. In 2013, he broke his hand when an opponent drove into it with a helmet. In 2014, he fell and detached ligaments from his wrists that led to a redshirt year.
