SALT LAKE CITY — With four weeks until the season opener, the University of Utah football team is already earning national recognition.

The Utes are ranked No. 25 in the preseason Coaches Poll that came out Thursday, dropping four spots from last season’s final poll.

“It’s a show of respect for our guys,” said head coach Kyle Whittingham, whose team remains one of five in the country ranked in every College Football Playoff poll.

“When you take that big of a hit as we did to the NFL, and still come away in the preseason Top 25, that shows respect,” he added.
