Utah doesn’t need Joe Williams to be the next Booker

SALT LAKE CITY — Filling the void left by running back Devontae Booker will not be an easy task for Utah.

The powerful back made up nearly 70 percent of Utah’s offensive footprint last season and willed the Utes to a top-seeded ranking for much of the season before suffering a season-ending injury against Arizona.

When the offensive woes persisted in the passing game, Booker picked up the slack and became more involved, hitting harder and extending plays despite defenses stacking the box against him.

When Booker graduated, it was as if the Utes lost their entire offense, or, at least, a majority of what made Utah successful for the last two winning seasons.
