"Dave has a knack for playing in the post," Krystkowiak said in a Tuesday press conference. "He's strong, brings some veteran leadership and an understanding of the game. There's no substitute for some experience."
Barefield transferred in from Southern Methodist University, where he only played six games. As a senior at Corona Centennial (Calif.), he averaged 20.6 ppg, 4.2 apg and 1.2 spg while earning all-league and all-district honors.
"Creates some potential problems, I think, for defenses getting into the teeth of them," Krystkowiak said. "He can get to the rim. He has a great midrange game, a little bit of a lost art today, and certainly can make threes.
