LEXINGTON, Ky. - Miranda Viramontes came within one out of a complete game but did more than enough to earn the win as Utah Softball captured the first game of its NCAA Regional Tournament vs. Illinois, 1-0.
The sophomore allowed just three hits and stuck out six batters while getting the Utes off to a positive start. It was Viramontes' third-longest outing of the season and her first shutout since March 12. Katie Donovan notched her third save when she struck out the final batter with the bases loaded.
Kay Kay Fronda picked up the Utah offense with three of the team's five hits.
