SEATTLE - Miranda Viramontes took a no-hitter into the sixth inning until No. 10 Washington exploded offensively to take a 6-0 win in the opener over Utah Softball.
UW took the lead just three batters in when Ali Aguilar reached on a two-base error and then scored on a Kimberlee Souza ground out.
Viramontes collected herself after the Utes fell behind and settled into a groove. She trusted her infielders and retired 13 of 15 UW batters by way of a ground ball until the fateful sixth frame. She finished the evening allowing just one earned run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings.
