A transfer from Southern Methodist University has committed to the Runnin' Utes, according to multiple media reports, adding depth to Utah's point guard rotation next season.
Sedrick Barefield, a 6-foot-2 guard from Corona Centennial High (Corona, Calif.), will join Utah next season after transferring mid-year from SMU. Barefield only played 16 minutes in five games before deciding to leave the program last month. The Mustangs (15-0) have also been troubled by NCAA violations under coach Larry Brown.
As a senior, Barefield averaged 20.6 points, 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals for the 25-6 Centennial Huskies, where he earned multiple all-area honors.
